Summer Camp Scholarships
Who Is Eligible?
Camp scholarships are provided to families who income-qualify and would like to send their child to a day camp or overnight camp experience. Overnight camps are available for students ages 7 and up.
Some camps are local to the community, while others require transportation. Students in grades Kindergarten through 9th can participate in the day camp program through Independence Township Parks and Recreation.
What The Scholarship Covers
Scholarships can include different types of camps:

Specialty camps that focus on activities such as sports or the arts.

Traditional camps that offer activities like swimming, hiking, and overnight experiences.

Excursion camps that include taking youth on trips, such as wilderness adventures or cultural tours.
Eligibility Guidelines
The following factors are considered when determining eligibility to receive a Summer Camp Scholarship:
• The camper must live in the Clarkston Community School District.
• The camper must be between 5 years old and 17 years old.
• The camper’s household income falls within the HUD Section 8 Income Guidelines (see chart below).
• The camper must have a real desire for a camping experience but would be unable to participate without scholarship support.
• The camper’s parent(s) or guardian(s) must be willing to support and participate in the child’s camping experience (i.e. transportation).
